Principal's Message

Parents and Students,

 

Welcome to the start of the 2017-18 school year at LMS. A special welcome goes out to our new staff members: Carissa Camp (MTSS Coordinator), Deb May (LMS/LHS Art), Rachel Schoessler (LMS/LHS Choir), and Ella Mayes (Paraprofessional). 

Our fall sports practices will start before school begins. Volleyball practice will begin on August 21st at 3:30. They will have their parent’s meetings on August 22nd at 5:30 in the LMS Commons. Football practice will begin on August 22nd after school, with a parents meetings and gear handout scheduled for August 21st at 4:30 in the LMS Commons. Cross Country will begin on August 14th at 7:00 a.m. at the HS Gym with their parent meeting being scheduled at a later date. Please make sure your athletes have their physicals completed and turned into the MS office prior to the first practice. They will not be allowed to participate until that has been accomplished.

 

Regular and prompt attendance is critical for student success. Breakfast is available for students at 7:35 a.m. Our school day starts at 8:00 a.m. Students are dismissed Mon. - Thurs. at 3:21 p.m. and on Friday at 12:40. If a student knows they will be missing school, prior notification is appreciated and students may get their assignments ahead of time from their teachers. The LMS Attendance Policy is in the student handbook, which is posted on the school website and on each student’s iPad.

 

Providing a Safe and Orderly Environment is one of our primary focuses at LMS. We ask for your help in achieving this objective. Please do not hesitate to immediately contact Mr. Hazen or Mr. May about any issues your child may be having. We ask that when you enter the building during school hours, please check in at the main office window and follow district procedures. Please drive slowly in the parking lot when dropping your student off for school. A new bus lane is under construction and we will send out information on the new drop off procedures once the bus lane is completed.

 

Minor changes for this year include:
- No weekly phone calls, just text and email messages, (Parents can request hard copies of the weekly bulletin at the MS office.)
- There is a new policy on unpaid student meal debt (The full policy is included in this packet)
- Students will not be allowed to consume any food or beverages while riding the route buses, in an effort to keep the buses clean.

 

A student planner has been purchased for each student and will be given to him or her the first day of school. The planner should help students stay organized and contains a copy of our current Student/Parent Handbook, resources for content areas, and pass pages required for leaving class. Should a planner need to be replaced; there is a $4.00 charge.

 

We are always looking for parents who would be willing to serve on our Parent and Community Advisory Committee (PCAC). If you would like to help make a difference in our school and community, please give us a call (548-6553) or stop in and fill out an application.
